Most of the primary IAR 80 FA structural parts are manufactured using rubber mat press forming technology. After pressing, the 2024 aluminum sheet undergoes a geometric change when the load is removed. The difference between the permanent bend angle and the maximum angle to which the metal has been forced is known as „Spring-back”. Spring-back is one of the key factors influencing the quality of formed sheet metal parts. Specific to the IAR80FA, a spring-back analysis was performed using simulation with Altair Inspire Form ( https://lnkd.in/gWQzFgUv ), a sheet metal forming simulation software. To compare the simulation results with the actual spring-back of already manufactured parts, several ribs of the horizontal stabilizer were selected for analysis. These ribs are made of Al2024-O (initial state), formed in a 6000tf hydraulic press, after which they are further treated to the final state T42, The analysis results are very close to the practically measured ones, the spring-back being about 2 degrees. This analysis is useful because non-conventional forming molds made of MDF are used.
